Rugby Union -

History

Rugby was invented in 1823 by William Webb Ellis, he was playing football and decided to grab the ball and run with it, which then created the game Rugby. In 1997 Jeremy Guscott, is a bronze statue of William Webb Ellis by Graham Ibbeson which is modelled of his own son. The statue cost £40,000 which was raised by a public appeal, the statue stands at the junction of
Lawrence Sheriff Street and  Dunchurch Road, which is beside a school opposite a place called Webb Ellis museum.
